Elsewhere in India is a body of work that explores cultural heritage, digital technology, and speculative futures through film, interactive experiences, video games, and sculpture, created by artists Murthovic and Thiruda.
Elsewhere in India envisions a future shaped by cultural amnesia. Set in 2079 AD, the narrative is anchored by Meenakshi, a ‘cultural cyborg’ designed to safeguard South Asian heritage and promote multicultural innovation. The experience fuses cutting-edge digital mediums—3D video games, AI art, motion-captured dance, and archival footage—to explore how heritage, science, and society intertwine in an imagined Indo-futurist world. The result is a playful yet thought-provoking journey through India's speculative future, underscored by emergent electro-classical dance music.
Our research has taken us across South India. We have recorded over 40 artists, while also documenting the impact of the pandemic on their practice. Our music features a musical palate across genres and generations, spanning international, local, folk and classical collaborations.
